The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation (JNJF) held a productive and consultative follow-up meeting today with the widows of Upper Mental Kissy. This meeting aimed to discuss the Foundation's upcoming economic development initiative tailored for widows in the area. Mr. Solomon Temgbeh, the Foundation's Community Development Officer, led the discussion by explaining JNJF's mission and objectives. He outlined the preparatory plans for initiating the Foundation's Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) program in the community, designed to empower widows economically.
The widows were very receptive to the initiative. Adama Conteh, the community chief, welcomed the Foundation's staff warmly, offering prayers for their success and assuring them of the community leadership's full support. Kadiatu Conteh, the chair lady of the widow's group, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the community. She thanked the Foundation for choosing Upper Mental Kissy for this humanitarian intervention, highlighting the dire need for such support among many women in the area.
"We are now very hopeful and optimistic," Kadiatu Conteh remarked, emphasizing the positive impact the initiative is expected to have on the community.
This meeting underscores JNJF's commitment to engaging directly with the communities it serves, ensuring that its interventions are both effective and sustainable. The Foundation's expansion to include Hook Street, Upper Mental Kissy, and Lower Mental Kissy is a significant move to reach some of Freetown's most impoverished populations, providing them with much-needed support and opportunities for a brighter future.
