The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation recently held an impactful webinar on mental health and financial literacy, specifically aimed at widows and the foundation's staff. This interactive online session addressed the emotional and financial challenges that widows face after losing their loved ones and provided valuable tools to help them navigate these difficulties.

Two prominent speakers led the event: Konima Bachalle-Taylor, a mental health expert, and Canon Dr. P. J. Pelham Hazeley, a medical doctor. They shared insightful guidance on managing emotional trauma and building financial resilience.

“Grief is a heavy burden, but understanding its impact on mental health can help widows take steps toward healing,” said Bachalle-Taylor. She emphasized the importance of self-care, open discussions about loss, and seeking professional support when needed. “You are not alone in this journey,” she assured the participants.

Dr. Hazeley highlighted the connection between mental health and financial stability. “Financial challenges often amplify emotional stress,” she noted. “Widows must learn practical financial strategies to regain control and plan for the future. Education on managing finances can empower them to make informed decisions that benefit their families.”

The program included discussions on budgeting, saving, and accessing financial opportunities tailored for widows. Participants were encouraged to ask questions and share personal experiences, creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere.

Agness Wagay expressed her gratitude for the session, saying, “Losing my husband left me overwhelmed, both emotionally and financially. This webinar provided me with tools to cope and reminded me that I can rebuild my life step by step.” She further highlighted the value of financial literacy, adding, “Learning how to budget and save has given me hope for a better future for my children.”

Foundation staff also benefited from the session. Alhaji Musa Barrie noted, “Understanding mental health and financial literacy helps us support widows more effectively in our work.”

The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation remains committed to empowering widows and vulnerable communities through initiatives that address their holistic needs. This webinar represents another step forward in providing practical solutions to the challenges faced by widows, ensuring they receive the support necessary to rebuild their lives.
